Take a trip back in time

For the history lover, travel to another era by visiting the extraordinarily well preserved ruins and roman cities of south eastern France. You will indulge in a fascinating tour of all the most impressive sites. This tour is a perfect mix of history and french culture.

Day one Lyon: Arrival and Discovery

Begin your trip back in time with a visit of the impressive French city Lyon. This city is known for many things, including housing some of the country's most well preserved old city centers and roman ruins. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the city with an emphasis of visiting all the centrally located ruins. Enjoy a stroll on the cobblestone pathways of the "Old City" while imagining walking in the footsteps of your ancestors.

Day two Lyon

After breakfast begin a thrilling day visiting the ancient antiquity sites in Lyon. Your visit will begin with a cable car ride to the top of the Fourviere hill in Lyon. Enjoy a guided visit of the old roman theatres, followed by lunch overlooking the city close to the basilica of Fourviere. You will be free to explore the basilica after lunch, independently, until the afternoon tour begins. Your afternoon tour will explore the Gallo-Romeo museum of Lyon, followed by a walk through the basilica gardens.

Day three Vienne

In the morning you will enjoy breakfast then meet with your guide. You will make the one hour trip from Lyon to Vienne by private car. After checking into your hotel, begin a tour of the major antiquities of the city. Visit the Temple of Augustus and Livia, the ancient roman theatre, the archeological garden and the Saint-Pierre Archeological Museum. Lunch is taken in the city between sites, and dinner is enjoyed in the city after touring is finished.

Day four Orange

Eat a good breakfast, before you meet your guide to begin the two hour trip south to Orange. In Orange visit the ancient theatre and the Triumphal Arc. Enjoy lunch in Orange before driving for 30 minutes to reach Vaison-la-Romaine, another important archeological site. Partake in a guided walking visit in La Villasse, and finish the afternoon in the Theo Desplans Archeological museum. Dinner is to be enjoyed in the medieval city center of Vaison-la-Romaine before transport back to your hotel.

Day five Nimes

After breakfast drive one hour from Orange to Nimes. Enjoy a guided tour of the Arena of Nimes, the Castellum, and the Temple of Nimes. You will enjoy lunch in the city center and then have the rest of the afternoon and evening to explore the roman city at your own disposal.

Day six Arles

Transport from Nimes to Arles will take 40 minutes with your private guide. Upon arrival, visit many of the most famous sites including the amphitheatre, the ancient theatre and Constantine’s baths. Enjoy lunch and dinner in the city center of Arles, and have some free time at the end of the day to visit the city on foot.

Day seven: Depart from Marseille

Your guide/driver will accompany you to Marseille and facilitate any transport to the airport or to another connecting tour. All prices include accomadations, transport and tours. Meals are not included.
